My First Introduction to Archery
Let me start by telling you a story.
I was in high school when I first tried archery. It was part of our gym class, and even though it was just one session, I absolutely loved it. I remember feeling disappointed when we never did it again. Thankfully, I still had basketball to keep me active, but archery always stayed in the back of my mind.
How Movies Rekindled My Interest in Archery 🎬
Years later, I found myself drawn to movies featuring archers—especially war and fantasy films.
One of my favorites is The Lord of the Rings. I love the first and third movies the most. And yes… Orlando Bloom as Legolas? The way he handled that bow was everything.

Seeing archery portrayed so beautifully on screen reminded me of how much I enjoyed it years ago.
Picking Up a Bow Again in 2025
Fast forward to 2025.
My church hosted a fall festival, and to my surprise, there was an archery station. The moment I picked up the bow, it felt like reconnecting with a first love. Strange, I know — but that’s exactly how it felt.
After the festival, the woman running the booth gifted me the bow I had been using. I was shocked and incredibly grateful. She encouraged me to buy arrows on Amazon and start practicing at a park or even in my backyard.
That small act of kindness reignited something in me.🫂
Learning Archery as an Adult
Once I decided to take archery seriously, I started researching. Unfortunately, there aren’t many archery ranges or instructors in my area. So I turned to:
- YouTube tutorials
- Reddit archery communities
- Online articles and forums
YouTube University never fails lol!!!
Even though winter slowed down my practice schedule, I’m officially hooked. Archery has become a new passion of mine, and I’m excited to invest in my own bow soon. From what I’ve learned, having a bow fitted to your body and draw length makes a huge difference.
Letting Go of Old Hobbies and Embracing New Ones
If you’re wondering — no, I don’t play basketball anymore. But it’s still a beautiful memory from my childhood.
Now that I’m older, I’m enjoying the freedom of exploring new hobbies, trying new things, and seeing where each interest leads me. Archery is just the beginning.
